THE State Government is hoping for a caravan-led recovery with a last-minute decision to abolish stamp duty for caravans and camper trailers in today's Budget.
The Daily Telegraph has learned caravan and camper trailers will be exempt from registration stamp duty, saving buyers an average of $1300.
The end of the "nuisance taxes" from July 1 this year, bringing NSW into line with the rest of the country as the last state to levy caravan stamp duty, will cost taxpayers $32 million in lost revenue over the next four years.
The caravan and trailer industry says it will restore more than 400 jobs lost in the past year in the slump.
There are more than 100,000 caravans registered in NSW with about 2600 sold every year, worth more than $30 million in total.
Duty continues to apply to motorised campervans and mobile homes.
